ILX First Impressions

Our New ILX with Technology Package arrived yesterday and I've had a chance to look over the car and I wanted to share some of my initial impressions.  First, a little background. The Acura ILX marks a return to a small car for the Acura brand. Acura feels (and I agree) that there is a growing market for a fully featured car that is compact and easy to park, as well as good on gas.  Here in North America where a "bigger is better" mentality rules, the idea of high content compact car has struggled to gain ground.  However, with the rising cost of fuel and our ever increasing desire for more features and better connectivity, the time is right for something different.

The Avengers Pre-Screening Presented by Acura of Honolulu

On April 3rd Acura of Honolulu hosted a pre-screening of the new Avengers movie at the Ward 16 theaters.  About 250 lucky Acura enthusiasts had an opportunity to view this exciting summer blockbuster a few days ahead of the national release date.  Acura is the Official Vehicle of  S.H.I.E.L.D in the new movie and several Acura's were seen briefly in the film, including a quick look at a convertable NSX prototype.  Several were actually blown up, unfortunately, none were ZDXs.

ILX Pricing and Trim Details

For the first time there will be three trim levels with three engine choices.  Back in the Integra days, there were RS, LS, GS and GS-R choices, but there were only two engines (not counting the limited production Type-R).  As a integral part of the new Smart Luxury philosophy, the ILX marks a return to a cloth seat option and for the first time since 2006, a car without standard HID headlights.  Personally, I think most clients are going to opt for the Premium or Technology Package, but you can look at the pricing details below and decide for yourself which suits you best when this goes on sale at the end of May. The prices below include the destination charge.

At the Chicago Auto Show Acura introduced the production version of the all-new 2013 ILX.  They provided a good deal of information but have stopped short of releasing pricing for now.  However, we can share what we know so far.  There will be three engines available in the ILX; a 2.0 liter 150 hp four-cylinder, a 2.4 liter 201 hp four-cylinder, and a 1.5 liter Hybrid.

To say that many (including me) were surprised with Honda's announcements at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show would be an understatement. They announced a number of new technologies, but I'll focus most on the things are are likely to find their way into Acura product in the coming years.

Acura NSX Concept is Tony Stark's New Ride in the Avengers

This morning I looked into the Temple of VTEC as I often do and found and found a simple one line post talking about an Acura concept on the set of the new Avengers movie currently filming in New York.  The link was to www.superherohype.com and photos from WENN.com that included a set of pictures that showed Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and a low-slung, burgundy, Acura convertible.

Acura Insights for 2012 (and a little beyond)

As Acura continues to recover from the production setbacks caused by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, it's becoming a little clearer what the future holds.  As it stands, North American production should be fully up to speed in August 2011 and Japanese production should return to normal shortly thereafter.

The following is a rough outline of what we are going to see in the showrooms in the near term and a little further down the line.
